How to improve your Digital DNA

Category: Tips and Tricks
July 5, 2017

Every business in 2017 has its own unique Digital DNA. This encompasses every single aspect of your business identity online. Sure, you may have an amazing bricks-and-mortar business, but in the 21st century this needs to be accompanied by a thriving online presence.

Improving your Digital DNA can start with small tasks and gradually work its way into shaping your complete online presence. Your website and social media accounts should reflect your branding and users should have a streamlined experience going from one medium to another.

The simplest factor in refining your user’s online experience is to have a strong company logo that is used at every opportunity online and offline. Your logo should work with your brand identity to ensure that your colour scheme and feel is used everywhere. This gives you a professional identity online.

Having accounts on the various social network sites also forms part of your Digital DNA. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter have been traditionally the most popular, but more and more enterprising companies are using Instagram and Snapchat to promote their products and services. Setting up social media accounts is usually a straightforward process, but keep in mind that your personal accounts and business accounts usually should be separate. Nobody wants to see 100s of photos of your cat – unless you’re a business selling products for our feline friends!

A strong website and regular blog updates are crucial to your Digital DNA. People will look to Google when searching online and your website is often the first time a potential customer is introduced to your company. Therefore your website needs to be professional, user-friendly, and accessible – this is especially true if you are selling goods or services through an eCommerce website or a mobile application.

For many businesses, a simple eCommerce website will not cater for all their requirements. They need more than just a simple shop, and require specific shipping, order tracking, logistics, and fulfilment needs. They might need to use multiple currencies, or multiple languages; they may have different product needs for different locations e.g. some products may be restricted in certain countries. They may need to link their online shop with their EPOS or stock management systems.

Web Summit 2014 Day Two

Category: News
November 5, 2014

IMG_0343The second day of the 2014 Web Summit did not have the same glamour of the first – there was no bell ringing by An Taoiseach, nor was there any Hollywood actress on display. However, for the 24,000 strong attendance, the key speakers and business leaders that spoke on various topics throughout the day provided more than enough information to help their businesses succeed.

Once again, a variety of content was seen as the way forward, with Jonathan Cloonan of GroupM predicting the continuing rise of Facebook video, while WhoSay’s Rob Gregory posited that brands need to create their own narratives on social media. Jim Bankoff echoed this, saying that Brand building is key – especially using a variety of platforms to reach your audience.

Production of a variety of content was key, but Sean Moriarty warned against the proliferation of too much content. “It’s essential for content providers to always, always, always focus on quality. There’s always someone out there who will invest in quality, so if you don’t produce quality content, you won’t get noticed.”

Moriarty made the bold claim that “the product on the shelf is not enough.” Instead, customers and visitors to your website are looking to learn and understand your business. This can greatly influence whether they decide to purchase your product or service.

IMG_0340The 2014 Web Summit focused more and more on the growth of mobile and mobile applications. Appcelerator’s Jeff Haynie stated that “mobile is replacing the web”, telling the audience that the most important thing in mobile and app creation is simplicity.

Facebook’s Dan Rose explained that this was the reasoning behind their controversial decision to separate the chat functionality from the standard Facebook app into a separate Facebook Messenger app. Customers want their apps to carry out simple tasks easily and effectively – if they want something more, they will use their browser or else use their desktop computer.

In the past year, 2Cubed has begun developing iPhone and Android Apps, and according to industry leaders, this is something that is only going to grow and grow.
